Carlos Álvarez works in the international team of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission.
He is responsible for the European Union's international relations with Latin America and the Caribbean on energy matters.
Since 2020, he has also been working on the Energy Platform established under REPowerEU, which manages, among other things, the implementation of the renewable hydrogen strategy.
He is currently working on the implementation of the Global Energy Transitions Forum, recently launched by President Von der Leyen.
In the past, he was heavily involved in the implementation of the joint gas purchasing platform AggregateEU, and previously worked on the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Lithuania.
