Rodrigo holds a degree in Business Administration from Adolfo Ibáñez University, a diploma in Creating Shared Value from Harvard Business School, and was a member of the Corporate Affairs Academy at Oxford University in 2023.
He has extensive professional experience in the mining industry. He joined BHP in February 2006 as part of the finance team that Spence built in Sierra Gorda. 18 months later, he joined the Marketing Team in Singapore, where he held various positions managing clients and commercial operations globally.
In early 2011, Rodrigo returned to Chile as Regional Marketing Manager, responsible for the Americas team. In September 2016, he assumed the position of Chief of Staff for BHP's global CFO based in Melbourne, Australia.
In January 2019, Rodrigo moved to Belo Horizonte to assume the role of Head of Corporate Affairs in Brazil. During this period, he supported the extensive ongoing remediation and compensation efforts following the Samarco tailings dam failure.
In May 2021, after nearly 20 years abroad, Rodrigo returned to his hometown of Quito as Head of Corporate Affairs, responsible for BHP's growth agenda. Rodrigo also served as Vice President of the Ecuadorian Mining Chamber and is currently Director of WIM Ecuador.
