Michael Pollitt is Professor of Business Economics at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He is an Assistant Director of the Energy Policy Research Group (EPRG), a joint academic director of the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University. Michael is a Fellow in Economics and Management at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. Michael was external economic advisor to the GB energy regulator, Ofgem, from 2007 to 2011. Michael has advised the UK Competition Commission, the New Zealand Commerce Commission, Ofgem, the World Bank, the European Commission and leading energy companies on energy and regulatory policy. He has worked extensively on UK, European and Chinese electricity markets and network regulation and has published 14 books and over 100 refereed journal articles on efficiency analysis, energy policy and business ethics. His most recent co-edited book is a Handbook on Electricity Regulation (Edward Elgar, 2025). Michael was elected Vice President of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) for 2020-23.
