Born in Germany, he is a geographer by training, graduating summa cum laude from Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. He is a prominent leader in the field of energy transition with a distinguished track record in Latin America. He is currently the Regional Coordinator of the global GET.transform program, implemented by the German Cooperation (GIZ) and co-financed by the European Union, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Austria. In this role, he promotes the strengthening of policies, regulatory frameworks, and investments in clean energy in the region.
With more than a decade of international experience in renewable energy, Michael has led high-impact initiatives in South America, where he directed a renewable energy program for GIZ. From that platform, he provided technical and strategic advice to ministries, coordinated with multiple international stakeholders, and developed bilateral and regional cooperation opportunities in countries such as Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
His career began in the private sector as Business Development Manager at juwi GmbH, a renowned German renewable energy company, where he led hybrid generation projects in the Galápagos Islands and promoted solar and wind solutions in various Latin American countries, gaining a solid understanding of the technical, commercial, and political challenges for expanding clean energy in emerging markets.
His commitment to sustainability goes beyond his professional work: he is passionate about cooking, fishing, and hiking, values that reflect his vision of an energy transition in harmony with people and the planet.
