He holds a degree in Physics, a Master’s in Energy Engineering from UNAM, and a PhD in Energy Economics from the Université Grenoble Alpes. His work has focused on research areas including Renewable Energy Foresight, Climate Change Mitigation, Energy Transition, and the Sustainable Use of Bioenergy.
He has served as Head of the Department of Energy Systems, Academic Secretary, and Graduate Program Coordinator at the UNAM Institute for Renewable Energies (IER). He was also the Scientific Manager for the Energy Area of the Ibero-American Program on Science and Technology for Development (CYTED), and a Social Advisor for the Evaluation Coordination of the National Climate Change Policy.
He has published 50 scientific articles, 5 books, 18 book chapters, and 19 intellectual property records, and has led 28 research projects. He is a member of the Mexican Academy of Engineering and a visiting professor at the Grenoble Institute of Technology in France and the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) in Spain. He holds Level 2 status in the National System of Researchers (SNI), and is a Senior Researcher (Level C) and PRIDE D scholar at UNAM.
His research has significantly influenced public policy formulation in the field of Energy Transition. His book Toward a Low-Carbon Mexican Energy System is a national reference on the decarbonization of the Mexican economy. Throughout his extensive career, he has supervised two postdoctoral research projects and 25 undergraduate and graduate theses. He contributed to the creation of the Bachelor’s Degree in Renewable Energy Engineering and to the transformation of the former Energy Research Center into the Institute for Renewable Energies at UNAM. He has taught 78 university-level semester courses at UNAM and carried out over 303 outreach and dissemination activities. Additionally, he coordinated the Energy Roundtable in the Dialogues for Transformation for then-presidential candidate Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
