Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Essex and M.A. in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Political Studies at FLACSO Ecuador. In November 2025, he will be a Visiting Fellow at the Australian Studies Institute of the Australian National University (ANU). He was a faculty member at the Faculty of Government, University of Chile, from 2010 to 2024. Additionally, he served as Deputy Director of the National Academy of Political and Strategic Studies (ANEPE) at the Chilean Ministry of Defense from 2014 to 2017, where he also acted as advisor to the Undersecretary.
He has been a Fellow at the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies at American University in Washington D.C., a Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University, the University of Bath, and the Centennial Center of the American Political Science Association. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy, Universidad Mayor, and the “Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins” Military School, in addition to directing the Department of Political Science and Sociology at the Catholic University of Temuco. He is a partner at the consulting firm Andes Risk Group and a member of the Board of the Universidad SEK.
