Bernhardt Johst has worked for the German Development Cooperation – GIZ for nearly 15 years. He began his work as an integrated expert at the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica and closely collaborated with GIZ’s regional energy program 4E in Central America.
From 2020 to June 2024, he was part of the “GEO II” project, co-leading its implementation across the eight SICA countries. The project aimed to promote the direct use of geothermal energy in the region, particularly within the local industry.
Since July 2024, Bernhardt has been serving as Program Coordinator for ProTransición in Bolivia. The program's objective is to promote and strengthen a just energy transition in collaboration with Bolivian partners.
Bernhardt is a certified Energy Manager and previously worked as a technical consultant for the renewable energy industry in Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. He is one of the founding members of the Costa Rican Solar Association and actively supports the implementation of energy efficiency measures based on ISO 50001 in the Latin American industrial sector.
He studied Business Administration, focusing on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and innovative business models in the energy sector.
