This session will address the participation of women in STEM careers in Latin America and the Caribbean from a systemic perspective, highlighting both the progress made and the persistent challenges in their access, retention, and professional development within the energy sector. Structural and socio-cultural barriers that limit their inclusion will be explored, as well as key strategies to promote gender equity, such as the visibility of female role models, the strengthening of mentoring networks, and the implementation of inclusive public policies. In the pursuit of greater participation of women in STEM areas related to energy, women’s associations in the sector play a fundamental role. Recognizing the transformative potential of women’s collaboration, the Latin American Energy Organization will launch the Latin American and Caribbean Women in Energy Network (RedLACME) – a project aimed at connecting national and local women-in-energy groups through a collaborative platform and regional dialogue space.
