Regional gas integration is both a challenge and a historic opportunity for Mercosur and Chile. The region has a broad network of cross-border pipelines built in past decades, significant available resources, and a growing energy demand that must be met under conditions of competitiveness, security, and sustainability.
In this scenario, natural gas plays a dual role: it drives industrial competitiveness and provides reliability support for power systems, while also serving as a transition vector toward cleaner, more orderly, and more resilient energy matrices. However, the potential benefits of integration can only be achieved if the countries of the region move forward with cooperation frameworks that go beyond national circumstances and jointly address regulatory, contractual, financial, and governance challenges.
