Energy Security in Island States – Keynote Session

Topic: Energetic Security and Financing for Sustainable Transition
Session information

Island states face distinct challenges in ensuring secure, resilient, and sustainable energy systems. Their dependence on external sources, exposure to extreme weather events, territorial and infrastructure constraints, and the costs associated with energy supply make energy security a strategic priority for their economic and social development.

This Keynote Session will offer a high-level reflection on the main challenges and opportunities for energy security in island territories, considering the need to strengthen system resilience, diversify energy sources, promote greater integration of renewable resources, and ensure reliable and affordable energy services. It will also examine the role of regional cooperation, innovation, planning, and strategic partnerships in building energy systems capable of responding both to current needs and future challenges.

The session will seek to provide a comprehensive vision of how island states can move toward greater energy autonomy, stability, and response capacity, while recognizing their particular characteristics and their relevance within the regional energy agenda.
