Decarbonizing freight and passenger transport is one of the greatest challenges of the energy transition. No single technology can meet the needs of every transport mode, as each segment faces different operational, economic, and technological conditions.
Latin America and the Caribbean possesses industrial capabilities, energy resources, and experience in developing alternative fuels that could enable the region to play a significant role in this transformation. The challenge is to understand how different solutions can complement one another: electric mobility is advancing in several segments of land transport; aviation is promoting sustainable aviation fuels (SAF); and maritime transport is exploring low-emission fuels that can reduce its carbon footprint without compromising operations.
The panel will bring together government representatives and specialists from the biofuels, aviation, maritime transport, and electric mobility sectors to examine how each segment is addressing decarbonization. Drawing on concrete experiences, it will assess the current state of these solutions, the challenges to accelerating adoption, and opportunities for the region. The discussion will seek to identify comparative advantages and the regulatory frameworks needed to establish Latin America and the Caribbean as an important player in the sustainable mobility of the future.
