She holds a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Católica del Norte (Catholic University of the North) and postgraduate studies specializing in business administration, including a Master's in Business Management and Administration from the University of Lérida in Spain.
A member of the Radical Party (PR), she has more than 30 years of experience in senior executive positions in various companies in the north of the country, especially in Antofagasta, her hometown.
In 2014, she became Minister of Mining in President Michelle Bachelet's second administration, becoming the second woman to hold the position in the country's history, following Karen Poniachik's tenure in that position.
During Michelle Bachelet's previous administration, she served as Regional Minister of Public Works in Antofagasta.
