The Invisible Value of Reliability: Co-optimization and economic signals of the electrical system and auxiliary services

Session information

Power systems face operational needs across multiple timescales, ranging from millisecond-level responses required to ensure system security and stability to flexibility needs, energy management, and long-term investment and expansion decisions.

This panel will bring together regulators, system operators, consultants, academia, multilateral organizations, and industry representatives to discuss how to optimize the operation and procurement of ancillary services that support power system reliability. The discussion will explore how to connect technical system requirements with their economic valuation and with procurement mechanisms capable of delivering efficient, technology-neutral investment signals.

The objective is to advance toward an integrated approach that avoids siloed optimization and identifies the combination of technologies and services that can address multiple system needs simultaneously at the lowest total cost.
