Sustainable mobility has established itself as a key pillar in the fight against climate change and urban transformation. Globally, transport accounts for almost 25% of CO₂ emissions, with ground transportation contributing close to 50% of total transport sector emissions. This has prompted cities and countries to adopt solutions such as electric transport, the expansion of bike lanes, and shared mobility systems.
In the region, Bogota stands out with its 630 km network of bike paths and fleets of electric buses (such as the Transmilenio), Uruguay is advancing its electric mobility policy, while Mexico is developing electromobility schemes. Brazil, for its part, advances with its biofuels policy and Argentina is implementing natural gas in urban transport. The region is advancing steadily. Although challenges remain, the region presents multiple pathways to decarbonize ground transport due to its diversity. This space will offer the opportunity to discuss the advantages and opportunities of each model. How will the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean accelerate this transition without leaving anyone behind?
