Faced with the urgent need to transition toward more sustainable, resilient, and secure energy systems, long-term planning takes on a central role in public policymaking. The Latin American and Caribbean region requires robust energy modeling tools that allow for anticipating future scenarios, assessing policy impacts, and guiding strategic decisions in a context of increasing electrification, renewable energy penetration, regional integration, and technological transformation.
The 2035 projection not only visualizes the expected evolution of the energy mix, but also identifies investment gaps, infrastructure needs, environmental impacts, and opportunities for cooperation. Through the use of integrated energy models, countries can systematically analyze key variables such as demand, supply, emissions, prices, climate risks, and socioeconomic factors, supporting the formulation of expansion plans, decarbonization strategies, and national roadmaps.
This session will present progress on energy projections to 2035 and explore opportunities for harmonization and collaborative work at the regional level. It will also be a space to reflect on common challenges in terms of data, technical capabilities, and the ongoing updating of scenarios in the face of a dynamic and complex energy environment.
