The Methane Emissions Observatory of Latin America and the Caribbean (OEMLAC), promoted by OLADE, is positioned as an initiative that contributes to strengthening the necessary conditions in the countries of the region to manage methane emissions in the energy sector and thus advance in the fulfillment of international climate commitments. In this framework, the development of projects focused on the decarbonization of productive activities associated with the oil and gas industry, which incorporate circularity approaches and the generation of economic, social and environmental co-benefits, become relevant and offer the sector opportunities to improve its competitiveness in domestic, regional and global markets.
Therefore, this panel will seek to explore the advances in the low-emission natural gas certification process led by OLADE, the regional commitments for the reduction of methane emissions associated with the natural gas production chain and the challenges evidenced in the industry to cover new markets.
