Energy Transition and Resource Governance: A Mining Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean

Topic: Non-renewable Natural Resources
Session information

The global energy transition is driving unprecedented demand for critical minerals, positioning Latin America and the Caribbean as a key region for the supply of essential inputs for clean technologies. This situation represents a historic opportunity to transform the region's geological potential into sustainable development, economic diversification, and social well-being. However, achieving this goal requires strengthening governance frameworks, ensuring equitable benefit distribution, and moving toward more responsible and traceable mining.
This session will analyze how the region can competitively integrate into global value chains, confront geopolitical pressure, and build a mining agenda aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals through industrial policies, public-private partnerships, and transparency and inclusion mechanisms.
