In Latin America and the Caribbean, men make up nearly 74% of the workforce in the energy sector, while women occupy approximately 26%. In the renewable energy sector, female participation is 32%, but in oil and gas it is reduced to 22%, in addition to the fact that the roles in which women find themselves are majority in administrative areas and minimal presence in engineering or decision-making, despite the fact that women constitute 60% of university graduates. only 30% choose STEM careers, which limits their access to high-level technical jobs.

However, gender-responsive projects—such as solar energy training programs in rural areas or inclusive procurement policies in Chile and Colombia—show that closing these gaps can improve the efficiency and sustainability of energy systems.
