Latin America and the Caribbean has a wide energy complementarity: while advancing in renewable energies, countries such as Guyana, Suriname and Argentina are emerging as new players in hydrocarbon exploration, both onshore (Vaca Muerta) and offshore (Guyana-Suriname basin). This boom occurs in a context of global consensus towards decarbonization, where natural gas is positioned as a strategic transition fuel and oil as the actor that has guaranteed international energy security in recent decades.

Understanding that our region must balance economic opportunities with climate commitments, a key question that arises is how to articulate a strategy that harnesses these resources without mortgaging the low-carbon future. The challenge lies in developing these projects with the highest environmental standards, maximizing emission reduction, sustainability, ensuring energy security and taking advantage of this window of opportunities.
