The energy transition depends not only on new technologies, investments, and infrastructure, but also on people prepared to design, regulate, operate, and sustain the energy systems of the future. In Latin America and the Caribbean, human capital development is becoming a key condition for accelerating a safe, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition.
This side event will open a regional dialogue on the capabilities, professional profiles, and competencies that the energy sector needs to respond to the challenges of decarbonization, digitalization, electrification, and the modernization of electrical systems. The discussion will address existing workforce gaps, technical and professional training needs, and the role of public institutions, regulators, distribution companies, academia, and cooperation agencies in building specialized talent.
The meeting will allow participants to share experiences, identify priorities, and reflect on how to strengthen the institutional and labor capacities necessary to support the region's energy transformation. It will also serve as a forum to present input and findings on workforce composition and capacity building among key stakeholders in the sector.
