The energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean faces great challenges due to the specific social, economic and cultural dynamics of each territory. Social opposition to energy projects, both generation and transmission, is common in various regions, regardless of their previous experience with energy projects. States and companies have developed strategies to optimize decision-making and improve relations with communities, while international organizations have established guidelines to protect the rights of communities and reduce investment risks.
Citizen participation and the inclusion of diverse social groups are essential for the planning and implementation of sustainable energy projects. What are the lessons learned from the strategies implemented by the public and private sectors to face the socio-territorial challenges of energy projects? This event seeks to promote the exchange of experiences, make good practices visible, encourage citizen participation and collaborative governance, and generate concrete proposals to strengthen the energy transition in the region.
