The challenges currently facing the region, and the efforts being undertaken to address them, seek not only to provide the entire population with access to modern, affordable, and clean energy, but also to enhance community development at every level.
Productive uses of energy are one of the keys to the development of many areas across the region. Extending energy access to the last mile not only creates greater educational opportunities and reduces health risks; it can also create new livelihoods or improve existing ones by facilitating the work of people in communities that have traditionally been left behind.
