Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, with 67% of organizations increasing their AI budget in the next two years. The main motivation for the intensive use of AI is to improve efficiency and optimize internal processes. AI tools have proven to be effective, reducing costs and analysis times.
AI offers multiple opportunities for value creation in the energy sector, from optimizing energy use in smart homes to predicting production in hydroelectric plants. In addition, the implementation of digital twins in hydropower plants and the use of smart energy grids are improving infrastructure management and monitoring. But its implementation faces key challenges. How can the region avoid relying on foreign algorithms by creating ethical frameworks and ensuring the greatest access to data in an equitable manner?
