Session

Energy Under Control: Storage Solutions for System Flexibility

Topic: Electricity Sector
Session information

Energy storage has become an essential component for achieving an efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy transition. In Latin America and the Caribbean, where renewable energy growth has been significant, storage represents the key to integrating variable generation—such as solar and wind—stabilizing the electricity grid, managing demand, and expanding energy access in isolated territories. From lithium batteries to solutions such as green hydrogen, pumped hydro, and thermal storage, the range of available technologies offers concrete opportunities to improve the region's energy flexibility and security.

The objective of the panel is to generate a regional conversation on how to position energy storage as a key enabler of the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through the exchange of experiences and strategic visions, the panel will seek to identify concrete roadmaps for incorporating these technologies in a planned, fair, and aligned manner with the goals of sustainable development, universal energy access, and decarbonization of the regional energy matrix.
